Music Emblem

Gerald Laverne "Jibs" Baldwin was born June 14, 1959, to Fritz and Mary Alice (Sullivan) Baldwin in Denison, Iowa. He was raised in Dunlap, Iowa and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1977. He then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1981 with a degree in Business and Political Science. On May 29, 1981, Jerry married Denise Lapke at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap and the couple lived north of Dunlap. Jerry worked for Triple C Roofing in Woodbine. Jerry and Jason Cooney purchased Triple C in 2004. Additionally, Jerry also had his real estate license and worked for Pryor Realty.

Jerry was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council. He also sang in the church choir as well as for many, many weddings and funerals. Jerry served on DCDC, the golf board and many other boards. He volunteered in the alumni band at graduation and 4th of July events and also enjoyed the 4th of July Car Show. Jibs was also a part of the Manteno Playboys Band which first started on New Year's Eve in 1977, and they just played again this past Saturday. Jerry enjoyed coaching his kids in Little League and made sure every athlete had game time. He also made sure everyone was taken care of, and he enjoyed giving people nicknames. He loved his old cars and driving them in parades. He played cribbage every morning and also enjoyed playing Spider Solitaire on his computer. Jerry loved collecting things, music of all genres and especially live music, but more than anything he loved his family and friends.

Jerry died from his injuries he sustained in a construction accident Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 55 years, 2 months, and 21 days.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Baldwin on January 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Denise Baldwin of Dunlap, Iowa; three children, Leah Baldwin and Ann Baldwin both of Dunlap and Luke Baldwin of Des Moines, Iowa; his father, Fritz Baldwin of Dunlap; three siblings, Pam (Ty) Ungrad of Neola, Iowa, Larry (Sherry) Baldwin of Neola, Iowa and Bill (Monica) Baldwin of Longmont, Colorado; parents-in-law, Bernard & Joanne Lapke of Dunlap and many other relatives and friends.
